ഉമറി(റ)ന്റെ ഇസ്‌ലാം ആശ്ലേഷത്തെ കുറിച്ച് അദ്ദേഹം തന്നെ പറയുന്ന ഒരു നിവേദനം ഇപ്രകാരം വായിക്കാം. ഞാൻ ജാഹിലിയ്യാ കാലത്ത് മദ്യത്തിന്റെ ആളായിരുന്നു. പാനം ചെയ്യുകയും പകർന്നു കൊടുക്കുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. ആലുഉമറിന്റെ വീടിനടുത്ത് ഹസവ്വറ എന്ന ഭാഗത്ത് ഞങ്ങൾ ഒത്തുകൂടുന്ന ഒരു സ്ഥലമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഒരു രാത്രിയിൽ ഞാനങ്ങോട്ട് പുറപ്പെട്ടു. അവിടെ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ ചങ്ങാതിമാരിൽ ആരെയും അവിടെ കാണാനില്ല. ഞാനാലോചിച്ചു. മക്കയിലെ ആ കള്ളുകച്ചവടക്കാരന്റെ അടുത്ത് ചെന്നാലോ? ഞാനവിടെ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ അയാളെയും കണ്ടില്ല. അപ്പോൾ ഞാനാലോചിച്ചു. ഇനിയെവിടെപ്പോകാനാ! കഅബയുടെ അടുത്തെത്തി ഏഴോ എഴുപതോ പ്രാവശ്യം വലയം വെക്കാം.
അങ്ങനെ ഞാൻ പള്ളിയിലെത്തി. അപ്പോഴതാ മുഹമ്മദ് നബി ﷺ നിസ്കാരത്തിൽ നിൽക്കുന്നു. നബി ﷺ നിസ്കരിക്കുമ്പോൾ ശാമിന്റെ ഭാഗത്തേക്ക് തിരിഞ്ഞാണ് നിൽക്കുക. അപ്പോൾ തങ്ങളുടെയും ശാമിൻ്റെയും ഇടയിൽ കഅബയുണ്ടാകും. അഥവാ കഅബയുടെ അസ്'വദ് മൂലയുടെയും യമനി മൂലയുടെയും ഇടയിൽ നിന്നാണ് നിസ്കരിക്കുന്നത്. നബി ﷺ യുടെ നിസ്കാരം കണ്ടപ്പോൾ എനിക്കൊരു തോന്നൽ. ഇന്ന് രാത്രി മുഹമ്മദ് ﷺ നെ ഒന്നു കേട്ടു നോക്കിയാലോ? അപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ വിചാരിച്ചു, ഞാനടുത്ത് ചെന്ന് കേൾക്കാനൊരുങ്ങിയാൽ എന്റെ സാന്നിധ്യം നബി ﷺ യെ അലോസരപ്പെടുത്തിയേക്കും. ഞാൻ കഅബയുടെ വടക്കേ ഭിത്തി ഹിജ്റിന്റെ ഭാഗത്ത് കൂടി കഅബയുടെ കർട്ടന്റെ ഉള്ളിൽ കടന്നു. മെല്ലെമെല്ലെ നബി ﷺ നിസ്കരിക്കുന്നതിന്റെ അഭിമുഖമായി എത്തി. എൻ്റെയും പ്രവാചകന്റെﷺയും ഇടയിൽ കഅബയുടെ കർട്ടൻ മാത്രമേ ഉള്ളൂ. നബി ﷺ യുടെ പാരായണം ഞാൻ ശ്രദ്ധാപൂർവ്വം ശ്രവിച്ചു കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു. എൻ്റെ ഹൃദയത്തെ അത് സ്വാധീനിച്ചു. ഞാൻ കരയാൻ തുടങ്ങി. ഇസ്‌ലാം എന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിൽ കടന്നു. നബി ﷺ നിസ്കാരം പൂർത്തിയാക്കുന്നത് വരെ ഞാനവിടെ നിന്നു. അവിടുന്ന് പുറത്തേക്ക് പോയപ്പോൾ ഞാനും പിൻതുടർന്നു. ദാറു അബ്ബാസിന്റെയും ദാറു ബിൻ അസ്ഹറിന്റെയും ഇടയിൽ വച്ച് ഞാൻ നബി ﷺ യുടെ അടുത്തെത്തി. അവിടുന്നെന്നെ തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞു. ശല്യപ്പെടുത്താനായിരിക്കും എന്ന് കരുതി എന്നെ ഭയപ്പെടുത്തി. എന്നിട്ടെന്നോട് ചോദിച്ചു. ഖത്വാബിന്റെ മോനേ... ഈ സമയത്തിവിടെ എന്താണ്? ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞു, ഞാൻ അല്ലാഹുവിനെയും അവൻ്റെ ദൂതനെയും അംഗീകരിക്കാൻ വന്നതാണ്. അപ്പോൾ അവിടുന്ന് അല്ലാഹുവിനെ സ്തുതിച്ചു. എന്നിട്ട് പറഞ്ഞു, അല്ലയോ ഖത്വാബിന്റെ മകനേ അല്ലാഹു നിങ്ങളെ നേർവഴിയിലാക്കട്ടെ. എന്നിട്ടെന്റെ മാറിൽ തടകി സ്ഥിരതക്ക് വേണ്ടി പ്രാർത്ഥിച്ചു. ഞാൻ തങ്ങളെ വിട്ടു പിരിഞ്ഞു. അവിടുന്ന് വീട്ടിലേക്കും പ്രവേശിച്ചു.
ഇത്തരം ഒരനുഭവം മുൻപ് ഉണ്ടായി എന്നത് നേരത്തെ ഉദ്ദരിച്ച നിവേദനത്തോട് എതിരാവുന്നില്ല. ആദ്യത്തെ ഒരനുഭവത്തിന് ശേഷം മനം മാറുകയോ വശീകരിക്കപ്പെടുകയോ ആകാമല്ലോ? മാത്രമല്ല അബൂജഹൽ മുന്നോട്ട് വച്ച മോഹനമായ ഒരു സമ്മാനം പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ചു കൊണ്ടായിരുന്നല്ലോ ഉമർ വാളും ഊരി രംഗ പ്രവേശനം ചെയ്തത്. അക്കാലത്തെ ഏതൊരു യുവാവിനെയും വീഴ്ത്താൻ പറ്റുന്ന ഓഫറായിരുന്നല്ലോ അത്. ഇത്തരമൊരു ബോധ്യത്തിലൂടെ ഉമറി(റ)ന്റെ ഈ രണ്ട് നിവേദനങ്ങളെയും നമുക്ക് ചേർത്ത് വെച്ച് തന്നെ വായിക്കാം.
ഉമറി(റ)ന്റെ ഇസ്‌ലാമാശ്ലേഷത്തിൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് തന്നെ ആത്മസംതൃപ്തി അനുഭവപ്പെട്ടു. അങ്ങനെ അദ്ദേഹം ചൊല്ലിയ കവിതയുടെ സാരം ഇങ്ങനെ വായിക്കാം.
"അനിവാര്യമായും അരുളേണ്ട സ്തോത്രങ്ങൾ
ഔദാര്യവാനേ നിനക്ക് ഞാനോതുന്നു.
വൃത്താന്ത ദൂതന്റെ സത്യമാം മൊഴികളെ
ആദ്യമേ ഞങ്ങൾ കളവായ് ധരിച്ചു പോയ്.
ഖത്വാബിൻ മകളെ ഞാൻ അക്രമിച്ചതിൽ പിന്നെ
നാഥൻ കനിഞ്ഞല്ലോ നേർമാർഗമെന്നിലും
ശത്രുക്കളപ്പോൾ പറഞ്ഞു ജനമധ്യത്തിൽ
ഉമറോ പതിച്ചു പോയ് 'സാബിഈ' മാർഗത്തിൽ
ശ്രേഷഠ വചസ്സുകൾ അവളോതും നേരത്ത്
അക്രമിച്ചഹോ കഷ്ടം ദുഃഖിച്ചിടുന്നു ഞാൻ
അർശിന്റെ അധിപനാം നാഥനോടവൾ തേടി.
അഹ്മദോ ﷺ ഞങ്ങളിൽ ഇന്നു പ്രസിദ്ധരാം.
യാഥാർഥ്യമേകുന്ന സത്യ പ്രവാചകാ..
താക്കീതറിയിക്കും വിശ്വസ്ത നായകാ.."
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى سَيِّدِنٰا مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ وَسَلِّمْ

Another report about Umar's conversion to Islam can be read as follows: I was a drunkard during Jahiliyyah period. There was a place where we used to gather near Alu Umar's house called 'Hasawwara'. One night I went there. When I reached there, none of my friends were there. I thought. How about going to that toddy shop owner in Mecca? When I got there, I didn't see him either. Then I thought. Where else can I go!. Approach the holy Ka'aba and circumambulate seven or seventy times. Then I reached the masjid . At that time, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was standing in prayer. When the Prophet ﷺ was praying, he stood facing Sham. Then the holy Ka'aba will be between him and Sham. Or praying from between the 'Aswad corner' and the Yamani corner of the holy Ka'aba. When I watched the Prophet ﷺ's prayer, I got a feeling. How about listening to Muhammad ﷺ tonight? Then I thought that if I went near and tried to listen, my presence might irritate the Prophet ﷺ. I passed through the north wall of the holy Ka'aba on the Hijri side of the curtain of the holy Ka'aba. Through inside of the curtain I reached just infront of the Prophet ﷺ . There was only a curtain between me and the Prophet ﷺ. It touched my heart. I started crying. Islam entered my heart. I stood there until the Prophet ﷺ finished his prayer. When the Prophet ﷺ went out, I followed him. I came to the Prophet ﷺ between Daru Abbas and Daru bin Azhar. He recognized me.
He scared me thinking that I came to disturb him. Then he asked me. Khattab's son.... What is here at this time? I said, I have come to acknowledge Allah and His Messenger. Then he praised Allah. Then he said, O son of Khatab, may Allah guide you to the right path. Then he touched my chest and prayed for stability. I left him. He also entered the house.
The fact that this experience does not go against the statement quoted earlier. After the first experience his mind might be changed or tempted. Moreover, Umar also entered the arena with his sword, expecting a tempting gift from Abu Jahl. It was an offer that could bend any young man at that time. With such a conviction, we can read these two narrations of Umar together Umar felt self-satisfied with conversion to Islam. Thus, the gist of his poem can be read as follows.
"The thanks that must be said I bow to you, O Generous One. True words of the prophet At first, thought false and left. After I assaulted Khatwab's daughter
The Almighty showed the right path.
Enemies said in the crowd Umar falls and goes to the 'Sabiee' path
I am saddened by the violence To my sister reciting sacred words
She sought to the Lord of the Throne.
Ahmadﷺ, famous among us today.
